As Kerala faces the Nipah virus scare for the fourth time since 2018, state tourism minister on Sunday reassured visitors that tourism activities across the state have been continuing normally and safely.
“Tourism activities across Kerala are moving ahead safely and normally with all events including the Champions Boat League (CBL) taking place as per schedule,” Minister P A Mohamed Riyas stated in a press release.
Kerala’s Kozhikode district reported six cases of the zoonotic disease this week. Two people who had tested positive have died and the others are undergoing treatment.
The minister said that the situation in a few pockets of Kozhikode where the cases were reported, was well under control.
“The situation is well under control in a few pockets of Kozhikode district from where some cases of Nipah virus infection were reported, thanks to coordinated and foolproof containment measures taken on a war footing,” the minister said in a press release.
He also informed that the Tourism Department officials were in close touch with the travel and hospitality industry and the feedback was that all tourism activities were on track as planned.

In the affected area, the government has mobilised the medical community in full strength and equipped them with the necessary health infrastructure, he added.
“Localised quarantine zones have been demarcated and all precautions are in place. The strong and timely interventions have started yielding results,” the press release said.
Stating that Kerala Tourism has come out unscathed from serious crises like the Covid pandemic, Riyas said that Kerala would always remain a safe destination for tourists, and the situation was no different now.
