Last rites of veteran journalist and eminent litterateur Homen Borgohain, who passed away on Wednesday morning would be performed with full national honours. 

This was informed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. 

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma further said that State Education Minister Ranuj Pegu has been entrusted with the job of overseeing the arrangements of Homen Borgohain’s last rites. 

“It has been decided that the last rites of Homen Borgohain would be carried out with full national honours. Education Minister Ranuj Pegu has been entrusted to oversee the arrangements,” said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Homen Borgohain’s last rites would be performed on Wednesday. 

Borgohain’s mortal remains would be first taken to Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra. 

After Kalakshetra, his mortal remains would be taken to Hengarabari, then to the office of Niyomiya Barta, the Assamese daily he was working with as Editor-in-Chief. 

After that his mortal remains would be taken to the office of News Live channel, for which he did a weekly show. 

His mortal remains would then be taken to the office of Assamese daily – Amar Asom. 

Then the mortal remains would be taken to the Guwahati Press Club. 

Borgohain’s mortal remains would also be taken to the offices of Assam Sahitya Sabha and Assamese daily Prati Din before entering the Nabagraha crematorium for last rites.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma would pay his last respects to the departed soul at the Srimanta Sankarkev Kalakshetra. 

Homen Borgohain passed away at the GNRC Hospital in Guwahati at 6:58am on Wednesday after suffering a cardiac arrest. 

He was awarded the 1978 Sahitya Akademi Award in Assamese language for his novel Pita Putra. 

He returned his Sahitya Academy award in 2015 in protest against the lack of tolerance being created at the Indian society. 

Homen Borgohain was born on December 7, 1932 in a small village in Dhakuakhana in Lakhimpur district of Assam. 

Homen Borgohain joined Cotton College in Guwahati for higher studies after completing matriculation from Dibrugarh Govt boy’s higher secondary school. 

Homen Borgohain also worked as an Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer for a brief period.
