Assam News – Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic team to hold flypast over Northeast

Northeast is all set to witness a flypast in December by the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Suryakiran Aerobatic Team.

These flypasts are being carried out at various locations across the country to mark the Swarnim Vijay Varsh or 50 years since the war of 1971. After the 1971 war, about 93,000 Pakistani troops had surrendered, and a new country, Bangladesh was born.

The Suryakirans will be carrying a display in Umiam Lake; Shillong on December 4 following which two flypasts will be flown over the entire Northeast which will culminate with a display at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati on December 12.

“Suryakiran Aerobatic Team of the Indian Air Force has always been the pride of the nation because of its professionalism, precision and prowess which has been proven time and again, in war and in peace,” IAF said in a statement.

Formation aerobatics is the pinnacle of aviation skills and the formation aerobatic unit of the Indian Air Force is the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team, popularly known as the Ambassadors of the Indian Air Force.

The team comprising 17 officers, 200 technicians and packs a powerful punch.

The team was formed in the year 1996 and has been personifying the motto of the Indian Air Force “Touch the sky with glory” ever since.

The team which has grown into a global phenomenon has the distinction of being amongst a handful of 9 aircraft formation Aerobatic team in the world.

The team has completed more than 600 displays through the length and breadth of the country and has also represented India in Sri Lanka and Dubai in 2021.
