Assam News – AJYCP burns Union petroleum minister’s effigy at Dibrugarh over fuel price hike

AJYCP activists took out a protest rally at Dibrugarh in Upper Assam on Saturday against the hike in prices of fuel and essential commodities.

The protesters, led by Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Dibrugarh district president Bhaben Sonowal and general secretary Priyabrat Gohain raised slogans against the BJP government for failing to curb soaring prices and sought the intervention of the Centre.

The agitators also burnt the effigies of Union petroleum and natural gas minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Union MOS for petroleum and natural gas Rameswar Teli.

The AJYCP threatened to launch intensive agitations across the state if the government doesn’t initiate steps to control the hike in fuel prices.

“The BJP came to power promising good days for the people but they have destroyed the middle and poor classes by their anti-people policies. They must stop working for the Ambanis and Adanis and think about the common people,” AJYCP DIbrugarh district AJYCP president Bhaben Sonowal said.

“We demand the intervention of the Centre in controlling the skyrocketing prices of petrol and diesel. Petroleum prices are rising every day. The price of essential commodities has soared due to the rise in fuel prices,” said Sonowal.

“The common people are struggling to survive and the government is busy in tax collection through petroleum products,” Sonowal added.

Meanwhile, several organisations have staged protests against the rising prices of fuel and essential commodities.

The common people are suffering due to the sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities.

“The BJP government in the Centre has failed to control the rising prices of fuel and essential commodities. Before, election, they gave many commitments to the public to garner votes. We are fed up with this government,” a local resident said.
