by Guwahati_City

Assam agriculture and veterinary minister Atul Bora on Saturday directed officials to provide mental and moral support to those who are suffering from Covid19 apart from medical treatment.

Bora addressed a review meeting on the prevailing Covid19 situation in Jorhat district with the Jorhat deputy commissioner and other senior officials of different departments and agencies at the Circuit House in Jorhat.

During the review meeting, Bora directed the officials to keep a close watch in the tea gardens where in recent times positive cases were increasing in many areas of the state.

He asked the officials to intensify awareness drives in tea gardens regarding the measures to be taken under Covid19 protocol.

New Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in his first Cabinet meeting assigned the Jorhat district to Bora to monitor the Covid19 situation.

The chief minister allotted the districts to the ministers to keep a watch on the Covid19 pandemic scenario.

The agriculture minister directed the officials to strictly implement the restrictions for containing the pandemic, said an official.

Bora called for creating awareness among the public about the need to follow the government rules and adapt to Covid19-appropriate behaviour.

Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, who also attended the meeting, suggested that all people residing in the tea estates be tested as several positive cases had been found.

Legislators of Teok, Dergaon, Mariani and Titabar were also present in the meeting.

Atul Bora meets Assam Agricultural University Vice Chancellor

Atul Bora later visited the Assam Agricultural University (AAU) and held discussion with Vice Chancellor Dr Bidyut Chandan Deka regarding the uplift of the state’s agro-economy.

Dr Deka suggested that farmers should be encouraged for double-cropping and launching projects for increasing production of meat and eggs to make Assam self-sufficient.

The Vice Chancellor further told the minister that the AAU was ready to provide technical knowhow and advice to farmers if the government undertakes schemes to implement the suggestions, the official stated.

Dr Deka also took up the matter of filling of vacancies of teaching and non-teaching staff of the university, to which the minister responded that he would take the issue with the chief minister, the official informed.
