Assam News – Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visits grenade blast site in Tinsukia

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited Tingrai Bazar in Tinsukia district of upper Assam to take stock of the situation.

On Friday, two persons were killed and two others injured in a grenade blast in the market area of Tingrai under Digboi police station in Tinsukia.

The deceased were identified as 25-year-old Sanjit Singh and 22-year-old Surajit Talukdar, both residents of Tingrai area.

The injured, identified as Monjit Das and Ganasyam Agarwala, are undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.

Talking to media persons at Tingrai on Saturday, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma strongly condemned the killing of the two innocent lives.

“We will take strong action against the persons who are behind the dastardly act,” chief minister Sarma said.

“Peace should be maintained at any cost. We appeal to everybody to maintain peace in the area. We would not tolerate such activities,” Sarma said.

Meanwhile, the Assam government has announced ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh for the victims’ families.

Union minister Rameswar Teli, Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, Tinsukia MLA and cabinet minister Sanjay Kishan, Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma and Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi accompanied chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during his visit.

The investigating team of police has pointed fingers at the ULFA(I) for the grenade blast.

But the ULFA(I) through a press statement denied their role in the blast.

In a major development on Saturday, the ULFA(I) through press statement announced unilateral ceasefire for three months due to Covid19 pandemic.
