Ahead of the counting of votes polled in State Assembly elections, the Assam government on Saturday relaxed norms of compulsory home quarantine for leaders of recognized political parties and accredited journalists.
In this regard, an order was issued on Saturday by the principal secretary to the health department of Assam, Samir K Sinha.
The order said the leaders of recognised political parties and accredited journalists arriving in Assam from outside the state, in connection with the election to the Assam Legislative Assembly, have been exempted from “undergoing compulsorily home quarantine for seven days”.
The home quarantine norm has been relaxed by bringing “partial modification” in the state health department’s earlier order No HLB.158/2020/168, dated May 1, 2021.
However, the health & family welfare department of Assam has decided that “such persons need to undergo only Rapid Antigen Test on arrival in Assam”.
The results for Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Assembly elections will be declared on Sunday (May 2).
The counting of votes will start at 8 am and initial trends may get cleared by 10-11 am.
The final picture with winning seats will be clear by around 5 pm.
