The Assam government has accepted the opposition’s demand for postponing discussion on population control among the Muslim community in the state. 

Although, Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary had allowed discussions on the topic, minister Pijush Hazarika announced that the state government is ready to defer the discussion.

The announcement was made by Assam minister Pijush Hazarika in the House, when the members of the opposition Congress were about to stage a walkout. 

Notably, Friday was the last day of the budget session in the Assam Legislative Assembly.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition Rakibul Hussain proposed that discussions on population control can take place in a different session. 

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Sherman Ali, in a motion, said that birth rate among Muslim population in the state, will decline if measures are taken to spread education and develop healthcare facilities.
