The Assam Government has reportedly decided to geo-tag all ponds in the State.
This decision was taken during a review meeting by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with the officials of the State Fisheries Department.
The process of geo-tagging the ponds in Assam will be conducted under the State Government’s scheme – “Ghare Ghare Pukhuri, Ghare Ghare Maas”.
The “Ghare Ghare Pukhuri, Ghare Ghare Maas” scheme was announced by the previous government in the State during the last budget session.
The scheme was launched “for the financial upliftment of the youths of the State and to make them self-employed”.

Moreover, the Assam government is planning to increase fish production in the State by developing big water bodies and ponds in every village.
These ponds would be owned and run by the local respective communities.
