Assam News – Assam Police recover 2 ‘huge’ elephant tusks in Barpeta, 5 arrested

The police in Assam’s Barpeta district have recovered at least two ‘huge’ elephant tusks on Wednesday evening.

The tusks were recovered in a joint operation by officials and personnel of Howly police station, Barpeta Road police station and 10th Battalion of the CRPF.

The tusks were recovered at Madulijhar area in Barpeta district of Assam at around 5:30 in the evening on Wednesday.

Five individuals, who possessed the tusks, were also arrested by the police.

Apart from the two elephant tusks, police also seized a Swift Dzire car and three mobiles phones from the possession of those arrested.

“Yesterday 2 huge elephant tusks were recovered at Moutupori village in Howly. The operation was a joint effort by Howly and Barpeta Road PS. 5 persons carrying the tusks, have been arrested so far and the car they were travelling, has been seized,” Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta tweeted.
