Top BJP leaders including party president JP Nadda on Thursday had a meeting at Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence in New Delhi over the selection of Assam Chief Minister.
Nadda who was campaigning in West Bengal following post-poll violence landed in the national capital on Thursday.
Sources said that the leaders in the meeting examined the names of incumbent chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and finance minister Hemanta Biswa Sharma for the post of next CM of Assam.
Sources said that the final call for the Chief Minister will be taken following the party’s parliamentary board meeting.
In the recently concluded Assam Assembly election, the BJP-led alliance got a majority to form the next government.
In the 126-member Assembly, the BJP-led NDA won 75 seats while the Congress-led alliance managed to get 50 seats.
According to reports, the BJP is under pressure to replace incumbent chief minister Sonowal with Himanta Biswa Sarma, whose clout with the top leadership in Delhi is well known.
