Assam News – Buffalo sacrificed at Iswari Harhi Devalaya in Assam’s Dhakuakhana

The Sri Sri Iswari Harhi Devalaya at Dhakuakhana in Assam’s Lakhimpur district saw a large congregation of devotees on Wednesday on the occasion of the Maha Ashtami of Durga Puja with sacrifices of animals and birds.

People from different parts of the district visited the historic devalaya (temple) from the early hours of Wednesday carrying pigeons, ducks and goats for sacrifice on Ashtami Puja.

A buffalo was sacrificed on Wednesday at the 299-year-old devalaya on the occasion of Ashtami Puja.

It has been a tradition in this almost three centuries old Sri Sri Iswari Harhi Devalaya to sacrifice buffaloes on the Asthami of the Durga Puja festival.

Women devotees were seen dancing in a hysteric state in the sacrificial ceremony inside the devalaya.

In North Lakhimpur, people thronged the historic Panchanan Devalaya from 4.30 in the morning offering sacrifices on the occasion of the Ashtami of Durga Puja.

The North Lakhimpur, traffic police made adequate arrangements for the passing of the devotees to the Panchanan Devalaya by diverting various routes of normal traffic with barricades.

Large crowds were also seen in other Puja Mandaps of Durga Puja in other parts of the Lakhimpur district on Wednesday with a peaceful atmosphere.
