Assam News – Changes in APSC civil service exam approved

The Assam Cabinet, in a meeting held at Bongaigaon deputy commissioner’s conference hall under the chairmanship of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, took several key decisions. 

One of the Cabinet decisions approved changes in the APSC Combined Competitive Examination (CCE). 

The Assam cabinet decided to “remove language barrier in civil service exams conducted by the APSC”. 

An official statement stated: “English and Assamese papers to be withdrawn subject to fulfilment of 3 conditions: candidate must be resident of Assam, name registered in employment exchange of Assam, must be fluent in speaking Assamese or other recognised languages of Assam.”

The Assam cabinet also decided to give cabinet status to Amguri MLA Pradip Hazarika. 

Hazarika will lead a committee formed to free areas of various Satras, which are under encroachment. 

The other members of the committee are MLAs Mrinal Saikia and Rupak Sarma. 

The next State Cabinet meeting will be held at Haflong in Dima Hasao district on January 5, 2022. 

The state government will form a Youth Commission to extend support to unemployed youths, who have studied in mother languages so that they can get jobs and get admission in medical and engineering colleges.

Assam chief minister Sarma said a Trust has been established to extend support to the families who lost their near and dear ones in the Asam Agitation. 

The Trust has been named as Trust for Welfare for Victims of Assam Agitation and Their Family. 

The work will be started with a fund of Rs 500 crore and the fund amount will be increased later. 

The State Cabinet decided to reduce the time period of possession for getting land patta in towns to 10 years from 20 years. 

The Assam Cabinet also decided to merge the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).

The decision to merge the two education boards in Assam has been taken in order to fully implement the new National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). 

The Assam Cabinet has decided to implement the 5+3+3+4 system in the state.
