Assam News – Covid patient administered 2-DG medicine dies at JMCH

A coronavirus-infected patient undergoing treatment at Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH), who was administered the new 2-DG (2-Deoxy-D-Glucose), expired late on Sunday night due to post-Covid complications.

2-DG is a Covid-19 medicine developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The patient, a young male had been administered the drug in an individual capacity and was the first person in the state on whom the 2-DG was administered as a special case.

The drug had been accessed by the patient’s uncle, a senior scientist working at the DRDO, Hyderabad, who had requested for administering the new drug 2-DG.

He had also procured the drug by himself and had dispatched it to JMCH.

Dr. Purnima Baruah, Superintendent of JMCH, confirmed that the patient who had been administered the drug since May 22 had tested RT-PCR negative after the completion of the doses and was shifted to the general ICU from Covid ICU.

However, the patient died late on Sunday night due to post-Covid complications.
