The Young Mizo Association (YMA) on Wednesday urged Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati to take measures to ensure that the Centre provide assistance to Myanmar nationals taking shelter in the state.

Thousands of Myanmar nationals from Chin state fled their homes and have taken refuge in different parts of Mizoram following the military coup in February.

During a meeting with Kambhampati, the central executive committee leaders of the YMA, the largest civil society organisation of Mizoram, led by its president Vanlalruata, expressed disappointment over the Centre’s apathy towards the plights of Myanmar nationals.

The YMA central executive committee (CYMA) leaders urged the Mizoram Governor to visit some of the refugee camps in the border districts to witness the ground situation so that he can appraise the Centre on the need for providing assistance to the displaced Myanmarese.
