Over 250 cattle egrets have been killed and hundreds more are facing eminent death as the Tangla Municipal Board, in a bizarre order, advised chopping down of bamboo groves in private lands of the town.
The Tangla Municipal Board, in its bizarre order served to five residents of Tangla town, stated that the COVID-19 situation in the town might get aggravated due to the wastes discharged by the egrets that have nests in the bamboo groves.
“The wastes discharged by the egrets that have nests in the bamboo groves in your land might aggravate the Corona situation in the town… it is advised that you clear the bamboo groves in your land and help build a healthy society,” the Tangla Municipal Board said in its order.
Meanwhile, over 250 cattle egrets have died after a site of bamboo groves was cleared by the Tangla Municipal Board.
On Thursday morning, when the municipality workers began cutting down the grove, nearly 200 egrets, many of them newborns, died after falling from their nests.

On the other hand, over 250 baby cattle egrets have been rescued following intervention of Udalguri Deputy Commissioner Dr Uday Praveen on Friday.
The surviving new born cattle egrets will be shifted to Kaziranga Rehabilitation Centre.
