India on Sunday became the third country after the United States and Brazil to cross the 3 lakh COVID-19 death mark. 

India’s COVID-19 deaths witnessed massive spikes during the second wave of COVID-19. 

Staff in crematoriums and burial grounds in India have been working overtime as deaths in thousands being reported in the Country on a daily basis. 

On Sunday, India logged as many as 3741 COVID-19 related deaths and over 2.40 lakh new positive cases.

The United States continue to be the worst-affected country with 589,703 deaths, followed by Brazil with 448,208 deaths. 

A total of 34,56,282 people worldwide have lost their lives to COVID-19, ever since the pandemic broke out last year. 

Meanwhile, epidemiologists have warned that a third wave is unavoidable if the vaccination drive against the virus is not accelerated in the Country. 

AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria has said there is not enough evidence that the third wave is going to predominantly affect the children.

Over the past few days, the country has been recording a steady decline in the number of daily cases, even as the daily number of COVID-19 tests are at a record high of 20 lakh for a few days.
