Assam News – India reports fourth COVID-19 case of Omicron variant

India, on Saturday, recorded its fourth COVID-19 case of the Omicron variant.

A South Africa returnee has been tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Maharashtra.

The person, a 33-year-old man, hails from Kalyan-Dombivli in Thane district of Maharashtra.

This is the first case of the variant in Maharashtra and the fourth in the country.

“A 33-year-old person from Kalyan-Dombivli who recently returned from South Africa found positive for Omicron variant of COVID-19,” Maharashtra health department informed.

“The 33-yr-old passenger arrived in Mumbai on November 24 from Cape Town in South Africa via Dubai and Delhi. He has not taken any vaccine. 12 of his high-risk contacts and 23 of the low-risk contacts have been traced and all have been tested negative for COVID-19,” the Maharashtra health department added.

It further said that additionally 25 of the co-passengers from the Delhi-Mumbai flight have also been tested negative.

“More contacts are currently being traced,” informed Maharashtra health department.

Earlier in the day, the third case of Omicron variant of COVID-19 in India was detected at Jamnagar in Gujarat.

The person, who has been tested positive for Omicron in Gujarat had recently returned from Zimbabwe.
