by Guwahati_City

The Border Security Force (BSF) has informed that rebels from different insurgent outfits of the Northeast are still staying in Bangladesh.

However, it said that those Northeast rebels staying in Bangladesh are not operating from the neighbouring country.

The Northeast insurgent outfits do not have their camps in Bangladesh anymore, but rebels are still staying there.

They are staying either at their relatives’ places or are being given shelter by their sympathisers, BSF Meghalaya Frontier informed.

“Inputs suggest that Indian insurgent groups are still moving around in Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh and a few areas bordering Meghalaya,” BSF Meghalaya Frontier Principal Staff Officer D Haokip was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Haokip added: “However, they are not directly operating from there.”

The outfits include the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), and remnants of the ULFA’s Dhristi Rajkhowa-led group.

Haokip said, “There are no camps of these insurgent groups. The members of these groups are staying at their relatives’ home or in the care of their sympathisers.”

In the recently concluded India-Bangladesh border guarding forces’ meet held at Shillong in Meghalaya, the key issue discussed was actions taken against Indian insurgent groups taking shelter in Bangladesh.

The BSF also provided facts, figures and lists to the Border Guards Bangladesh containing details of hideout camps of Indian insurgent groups based in Bangladesh.
