Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio launched the online inner line permit (ILP) module portal www.ilp.nagaland.gov.in at the chief minister’s residential complex in Kohima on Thursday.

Launching the portal, Rio said the module for online issue of ILPs for tourists was made operational in November 2019. He said the new module will cover other categories such as businessmen, traders, labourers, priests and students and expand online services.

Rio said it is part of the government’s effort to make public services available in a more efficient and user-friendly manner.

He said the ILP is a tool to protect the indigenous people of Nagaland and enforced under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873. It was also agreed as part of the 16-Point agreement that led to the formation of the state, he said.

Rio said similar provisions are also available in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Manipur. He added that with strict timelines and monitoring, it should be possible to see that the approval process is not abused and the ILP applicants are also happy.

Rio said online ILP would enable authorities to capture all data of visitors to the state, analyse it and help in better planning for various facilities. He advocated for more online government services so that the public can avail services through their computers, mobile devices or through computer service centres. He also stated that the websites should not be only tools for providing information but also to provide services online within a short time limit.
