Due to Covid19 pandemic, there will be no celebration of Ambubachi Mela in Kamakhya Temple this year.
Ambubachi Mela is a famous religious festival, which is celebrated every year in Kamakhya Temple, one of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Pithas, located in Guwhati’s Nilachal hills.
Thousands of devotees and pilgrims gather in and around Kamakhya Temple from various parts of the country and abroad.
The Kamakhya Devalay Management Committee in a statement on Friday said: “Keeping in view of the Covid19 pandemic which has created fear in the world and in order to prevent the spread of infection, the doors of the temple will remain closed till June 30, 2021.”
“Also, it has been decided to hold only the traditional religious rituals during the Ambubachi Mela, which is scheduled to be started from June 22, 2021,” the temple management committee said in the statement.
During this period, there will be no visit of any pilgrims or devotees in the Kamakhya area and there will not be any food arrangement for them.
The temple management committee has sought cooperation for all the devotees in this regard.
On Thursday, Assam reported 4,309 new positive cases and 46 more deaths due to Covid19.
Kamrup Metro district alone reported 386 new positive cases and 5 more deaths on Thursday.
The positivity rate of Assam stood at 4.02% in Assam.
Assam currently has 50,534 active Covid19 cases.
