The Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) family on Sunday condoled the demise of ASTU Vice Chancellor Prof Dhiraj Bora.

Prof Bora died at his residence in Ahmedabad on Saturday due to cardiac arrest.

A condolence meeting was held on on Sunday at Assam Science and Technology University premises at Jalukbari in Guwahati.

The condolence meeting was attended and participated online by officers, faculty, staff, students, well-wishers and family members, informed the registrar of the ASTU.

“The meeting deeply mourned the sudden, sad and untimely demise of Professor Dhiraj Bora, the Vice Chancellor of the University on June 19, 2021 at his residence at Ahmedabad,” the ASTU registrar stated.

The ASTU family remembered with gratitude the services rendered by Professor Dhiraj Bora, an internationally reputed physicist, whose immeasurable contribution has made this University to grow within a very short time since its inception, he added.

Prof Bora was a dedicated scientist and educationist throughout his life and gave special attention to improving the quality of science & technology education.

“Professor Dhiraj Bora was a larger than life character and an extraordinary man, verified by many awards and honours he received,” the University registrar said.

The employees, faculty and students of ASTU shall cherish forever the fond and everlasting memories of Professor Dhiraj Bora.

“His ideals, leadership quality, and caring nature will continue to inspire the ASTU family and endear his memory to all,” the ASTU statement said.

The meeting offered heart-felt condolence at the demise of Prof Bora and deepest sympathy to his bereaved wife and daughter and other members of the family.

The meeting also observed one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

Prof Dhiraj Bora was 70 at the time of his demise.

He was born to Lalit Chandra and Kusum Bora on September 30, 1951 in Guwahati.

Dhiraj Bora did his schooling at Daly College, Indore and passed out in 1968.

Prof. Dhiraj Bora took over as the ASTU Vice Chancellor in November 2016.

Prior to the assignment, Prof. Bora served as the director of the Institute of Plasma Research (IPR), Gandhinagar.

He also served as the chief scientist at ITER-India.
