Shillong, May 28: The state government has decided to further restrict inter-state movement of people as part of its containment measures to combat against the spread of Covid-19 in the state.
The decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in presence of cabinet ministers and senior government officials today.
Addressing media persons, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “Containment measures in the entire state will be further extended from May 31, till further orders.”
He said during the containment period inter-state movement of people will be restricted. “However, this restriction will not be applicable to transit vehicles who have to pass through the state of Meghalaya,” Tynsong added.
He also informed that entry of tourists from outside the state will not be permitted even as all tourist spots will continue to remain closed.
Further, political, public, social and religious gatherings are not permitted including conference meetings and training, Tynsong said while adding that sports activities will also not be allowed.
On the other hand, the state government has decided to allow international border trade to resume but subject to regulation by the concerned Deputy Commissioners.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the government has also authorized all Deputy Commissioners and Sub-Divisional Officers to impose restrictions in their respective districts and jurisdictions depending on the local situation.
