Guwahati: The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell (CM’s SVC) of Assam has summoned former Union Minister of State and Congress MP Ranee Narah, in connection with an alleged MPLAD fund scam.
Narah has been directed to appear in the CM’s SVC office on September 19.
According to sources, an amount was allocated from Narah’s MPLAD fund in 2013-14 for the installation of hand pumps in the Jorhat district.

However, a case was registered in 2017 alleging embezzlement in the MPLAD fund.
She alleged that the summon is now being issued against her as part of a political conspiracy to divert attention from the land scam issue involving the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma.

Ranee Narah is a member of the Indian National Congress. She represented Assam as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 2016 to 2022.
She also represented Lakhimpur in the Lok Sabha from 1998 to 2004, and again from 2009 to 2014.
Narah also served as the Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs in the Government of India from 2012 to 2014.
