Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said it is time to “prepare ourselves to fight against the second wave of Covid19”.

Sonowal said this after attending a review meeting on Covid19 situation at the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMC) in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh on Sunday.

Talking to media persons, chief minister Sonowal said, “We have fought successfully against the first wave of Covid19. Now, the time has come again to prepare ourselves to fight against the second wave of Covid19 pandemic.”

“Last year, we all unitedly fought against the pandemic following all the guidelines of cleanliness and social distancing.”

“Now, it is time that we make people aware so that they follow the health guidelines sincerely,” Assam chief minister Sonowal said.

CM Sonowal further said, “There is no shortage of Covid19 vaccine.”

“We have to continue vaccination and testing simultaneously. We appeal to the people to come forward and co-operate for testing as well as vaccination for the safety of all,” Sonowal added.

The review meeting was attended by MLAs Prashanta Phukan, Rituparna Baruah, Dibrugarh deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, Assam medical College Hospital principal, superintendent, all departmental heads, joint director of health, Dibruharh and other senior health officers of the district.

On Sunday, Assam registered one more Covid19 death, taking the state’s toll to 1,118 while 352 new positive cases were detected in the state.

The death case was reported from Lakhimpur district of the state.

According to the Covid19 media bulletin released by state health and family welfare department, a total of 73,329 Covid19 tests were conducted in Assam, out of which 352 new cases were found positive for the virus.

Sunday’s positivity rate of Assam stood at 0.48%.
