The Mizoram Bar Association (MBA) has filed a petition before the Aizawl Bench of Gauhati High Court over the road blockade on NH-306 along the Assam-Mizoram border which has affected the transportation of essential commodities and medical supplies to the state.
The MBA had submitted a representation before the Central government, state government and Mizoram government over the blockade of the NH-306.
“However, as no response has been received from the aforementioned, understanding the hardship faced by the people of Mizoram, the MBA has felt it necessary to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). Although the present PIL is filed before the Gauhati High Court, Aizawl Bench, there is a possibility of the said PIL being heard by the Principal Bench of the Gauhati High Court at Guwahati since the Aizawl Bench is under the jurisdiction of the Principal Bench at Guwahati,” MBA said in a statement.
Mizoram Health Minister R Lalthangliana on Monday wrote to the Centre alleging that a blockade on vehicles imposed by Assam has led to shortages of medical supplies, including Covid-19 test kits and oxygen cylinders.
In his letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Lalthangliana urged the Centre to intervene and lift the alleged blockade imposed by Assam.
As per reports, no vehicle has entered the state from Assam since July 26.
The town of Vairengte, on the National Highway 306, connects Mizoram to the rest of the country and most supplies come to the state through this route.
