Is the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra likely to fall?

Going by the statement of a union BJP minister, a major ‘conspiracy’ seems to be brewing to ‘break’ the MVA government in Maharashtra.

Speaking to the media in Jaipur on Friday, union minister Narayan Rane has said that a ‘change’ in Maharashtra government is likely to be seen soon.

“Change will be seen in Maharashtra very soon. The change will be seen by March,” said Narayan Rane.

However, the union minister refused to divulge much on the matter saying that “some things have to be kept secret”.

Rane said: “To form a government or to break a government, there are some things that are meant to be kept secret.”

The MVA coalition government was formed in Maharashtra following the 2019 Assembly elections in the state under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena.

The Shiv Sena, once the closest and long-time ally of the BJP, had snapped ties with the saffron party after the BJP refused to accept Uddhav Thackeray as chief minister.

Later the Shiv Sena entered into an alliance with the NCP and the Congress, to form the MVA government in Maharashtra with the support from the SP, PWPI, PJP and several other political parties and independent MLAs.

Currently, the MVA government has 171 MLAs under its kitty.

Shiv Sena has 57, NCP – 53, Congress – 44, Bahujan Vikas Aaghadi – 3, Samajwadi Party – 2, Prahar Janshakti Party – 2, Swabhimani Paksha – 1, Peasants and Workers Party of India – 1, Independents – 8.

On the other hand, the BJP-led NDA has 101 MLAs: BJP – 94, RSP – 1, JSS – 1, Independents – 5.
