Northeast News – Pharmaceutical companies to speed up Remdesivir production

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said the state government has directed the Sun Pharma that produces the Remdesivir injection in the state to speed up production and roll out.

The entire country is reeling under an acute shortage of Remdesivir injection, oxygen and vaccines during the catastrophe that has been brought about by the second wave of Covid-19.

An unprecedented 3,49,691 people have  tested positive for the virus in India in the last 24 hours, with 2,767 people succumbing to the infections

In Assam 2,236 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, with the disease claiming 14 more lives.

Kamrup (Metro) has the highest positive cases, with 815 people testing positive in the corresponding period.

The health minister also visited the Sun Pharma live plant at Palasbari to take stock of the production of the Remdesivir injections required for the treatment of Covid-19.

The plant has a capacity of producing 80,000 injection vials in a week.

On the other hand, the minister has directed all hospitals in Assam to set up their own oxygen unit to ensure a steady supply of oxygen to patients.

They have also been asked to tie up with hotels for dedicated Covid beds in view of the alarming spike in positive cases.
