Tseminyu District Basketball Association (TDBA) organised its 1st Edition of “Autumn Basketball Tournament” at Basketball Court, Tseminyu Town Hall premises on October 19 and 20, 2023.
The first ever basketball tournament in Tseminyu district registered five men’s teams playing League-cum-knockout matches on day one.
The second day of the tournament witnessed exciting semi-final matches until team RPOC and team RLBC managed to fight their way through to the finals.
A women’s match was also held between Team Cougars and Team TTKL, which was organised with the support & sponsorship from Tseminyu District Administration in line with Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
Team cougars dominated the match and emerged as Champions in the women’s category.
In the final match for the men’s category, Team Rengma Public Organization Chumukedima (RPOC) defeated the Rural Legions Basketball Club (RLBC) to become the Champions of the 1st Edition of Autumn Basketball Tournament, 2023.
MVP title for the men’s category was awarded to Benhilo Lorin of Team RPOC while Aien of Team cougars was adjudged the MVP in women’s category.
On day one, deputy commissioner (DC) Tseminyu, Rohit Singh, who graced the opening ceremony as special guest, unfurled TDBA flag.
The programme was chaired by TDBA treasurer Jethro Mesen, invocation was offered by TTBC pastor Athonglo Khing while the welcome address was delivered by convenor Thonlo Kath.
TDBA advisor John Kath encouraged the players and vote of thanks was proposed by TDBA president Kegwalo Kemp.
After the semi-final matches a 3 Point Shooting competition was held wherein Martin Rasü secured the best three-point shooter of the contest.
The closing ceremony was hosted by TDBA vice president Mitsalo Kath, words of encouragement by NBA secretary Sentiningsang Longkumer, who is also an executive member, Basketball Federation of India, while TDBA advisor Hethinon Mesen delivered a brief speech.
PWD(H) Division-1, Kohima executive engineer Er. Abija Khing, graced the event as special guest and finally gave away the prizes and awards to the Winners of the tournament. The vote of thanks was proposed by TDBA general secretary Kenyütsinlo Kent while TTBC associate pastor Agwalo Semp gave benediction prayer.
