Shillong, May 12: Covid vaccination for citizens above 18 years of age is all set to roll out in the state from May 14.
Announcing this after a daily review meeting here today, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the 42,000 doses of vaccines ordered by the state government will be arriving in the state tomorrow.
“Therefore, we have decided to start the vaccination drive for the 18-44 age group from May 14,” he said.
Tynsong also informed that vaccines will be earmarked for vulnerable districts adding that the health department has been asked to accordingly, strategize the vaccination drive.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the Government of India has already created a dedicated portal where any citizen of the state can directly register or pre-register themselves for vaccination.
“However, only tomorrow when the data is available with the health department will we know the number of people who have registered for the vaccination,” he added.
When asked if the 42,000 doses of vaccines are enough to cover all citizens under this age group, Tynsong however said that the government is only starting the vaccination drive with the present allotment.
“In fact, the state government has already sent a letter to the Government of India to further extend allotment of vaccines for Meghalaya,” he informed.
