GUWAHATI: A wanted rhino poacher, who was arrested from Kerala, managed to escape from the police custody in North Assam’s Biswanath district.
Rhino poacher Asmat Ali alias Nalco, after escaping police custody he jumped into Brahmaputra river.
He was declared an absconder by the Assam government and a reward of Rs 5 lakh for providing information about him.
Asmat was allegedly involved in multiple cases of poaching of rhinos in Kaziranga National Park (KNP).
He was nabbed from Malappuram district in Kerala by state police, where he stayed with migrant workers from the Northeast and was handed over to the Assam Police on February 16.
