Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh visited CIT Kokrajhar.

During his visit, Union minister Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh had a meeting with CIT Kokrajhar management in presence of the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Pramod Boro at the Central Library of CIT Kokrajhar.

Before starting the meeting, the Union minister interacted with the students of CIT Kokrajhar, who presented posters on their projects.

In the meeting, Prof. T.G. Sitharam, the Director of IIT Guwahati and Director (additional charge), CIT Kokrajhar, delivered the welcome address and introduced the Registrar Chaitali Brahma and all other Deans to the Union Minister.

The Registrar and Prof. Biswarup Saikia, Dean, Planning and Development, CIT Kok presented a brief on the background of the institute and its infrastructure along with the courses offered, the departments and the lab facilities.

In her presentation, the Registrar apprised the need for more lab facilities and hostel facilities.

After the presentation, the Deans of the institute shared the problems and prospects of the institute.

In the meeting, the need for a long-pending 33 KV dedicated power line was also addressed by the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Bihung Brahma.

“With the initiative of the Director with the help of the BTC chief, the long-pending problem is going to be resolved soon,” sources said.

During the meeting, the Union minister appreciated the efforts made by students in poster presentations.

Union minister Rajkumar Ranjan Singh said, “The qualities of the posters show the seriousness of the institute in the field of research.”

He appreciated the Food Technology department and emphasized more research on promoting local food products. He asked to study more on native foods.

He suggested the signing of an MoU with CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore.

The Union minister also suggested that basic sciences be promoted and asked IIT Guwahati to collaborate in this regard.

Rajkumar Ranjan Singh appreciated the Robotics projects and suggested more projects on artificial intelligence.

He suggested that the institute should apply for patents and follow the New Education Policy of the central government.

He encouraged multidisciplinary studies and stressed subjects on Humanities and Social Sciences.

The Union minister emphasized proper utilisation of the infrastructure in the academic institutions.

He encouraged more foreign collaboration and suggested that the CIT Kokrajhar can play a positive role in improving rural people through technology in BTR.

The Union minister also suggested that the institute can work on water resources and water supply.
