Shillong, May 1: People found to be violating the restrictions imposed on vehicular movement as part of the containment measures presently in effect in the Shillong agglomeration will be fined from Monday onwards.
This was informed today by the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district, Isawanda Laloo even as she informed that checking conducted today resulted in warnings being issued to many violators who were travelling with expired passes or false declarations.
Laloo also observed that many requests for passes are for non-essential reasons or without substantive documents even as she added that the office of the Deputy Commissioner will expedite all passes of an urgent nature. She however said, “People are encouraged to stay home, and move out only for essential purposes.”
Meanwhile, Laloo said that instructions have been passed to all enforcement personnel to permit persons carrying essential items, construction material and other purposes as permitted. “Persons seeking medical aid have also been facilitated,” she added.
On another note, Laloo informed that stringent checking is being conducted at Mawiong check point where one bus carrying returnees from outside the state was intercepted for escaping the Umling check point and was then directed to Polo for testing of the occupants. “A bus transiting through Meghalaya en-route to Silchar was checked and passengers disembarking at Shillong were directed to undergo testing,” she said. Laloo also said that two cases of violation of isolation protocol have been reported and that instructions have been given to the magistrates concerned and the respective headmen have also been alerted. “Four shops were closed in Golf Link Pdengshnong by the Dorbar Shnong with intimation to the Incident Commander for violation of protocol,” she added.
